initial emt certification

Interested in becoming an EMT? Already an EMT but want to upgrade your certification? Initial/upgrade certification training is conducted through Pitt Community College. Numerous classes are normally held throughout the year. Currently, there are EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic classes running. Classes normally meet 7-10PM on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday (depending on the class), with some Saturday classes throughout the year.

Continuing education training is taught through Pitt Community College, both at the PCC main campus and at strategic locations throughout the City/County. Schedules of Basic Life Support/Advanced Life Support training can be found below.

ALS SKILLS EXAMS
  • As a branch of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the East Carolina University - Brody School of Medicine, the Division of EMS provides a host of services to all EMS stations in Pitt County, including medical direction for practicing EMS providers in Pitt County.

  • All EMS providers credentialed EMT-Basic through Paramedic are required to complete an ALS Skills Examination at the Division of EMS prior to functioning at their level in Pitt County. Below is information regarding the exam schedule and policies.
     

    ALS Skills and Oral Exam Schedule

    Exam times on these dates will be: 1300-1500 hours and 1800-2100 hours. To schedule an exam, contact the Division at 252.744.2154. The EMS provider will need to indicate whether he/she wishes to schedule for the daytime or the nighttime exam. An EMS provider who would fail the daytime exam will not be permitted to retest in the nighttime exam (on the same date). Please remember that EMS providers MUST complete the skills/oral pre-requisites prior to scheduling an exam. The provider will need to schedule for an exam a minimum of two weeks prior to the date desired.
     
    SUBMISSION OF CONTINUING EDUCATION REPORTS
    All EMS providers credentialed EMT-Basic through Paramedic are required to complete and submit an ALS Continuing Education Report to the Division of EMS every six months. Reporting periods run from Jan-June and July-Dec, with reports due on 31July and 31-Jan respectively. Failure to turn in a report will result in a provider being suspended from functioning at their level in Pitt County.
